About Security Products
Security products are objects installed by organizations or homeowners who have a vested interest in protecting their homes or facilities. A catch-all term, "security products" can refer to any method used to protect a facility or area, may it be from theft, intruders, fraud, introduction of weapons or other harmful objects into an area, or the escape of dangerous persons from an area. Here are some examples of security products:
- Security Cameras are security products that are widely implemented. Camera systems, like CCTV are installed in public places mostly for crime prevention, but also for identifying criminals whose crimes are caught on tape. Homeowners install security cameras to protect valuables and also to identify criminals who break into their houses.
- Motion Detectors are sensitive instruments that are tuned to go off when their sensors detect motion in their range. Often their alarms include blinking lights and loud noises to scare off potential thieves or intruders as well as alert any security staff to the disturbance. Motion detectors are common in homes, businesses, and other institutions, like museums, where valuables are stored.Often, in homes, a motion detector can be as simple as a light affixed on the house's exterior which turns on when motion is detected in the driveway or front yard. In museums and other places where security needs to be more sophisticated, motion detectors can be complex instruments that use laser beams to detect stealth movement across an open space.
- Metal Detectors are chiefly used to ensure that harmful objects do not enter an area where security is paramount. Often public institutions like schools and government buildings will utilize metal detectors on all guests who enter to detect weapons like guns or knives. Metal detectors are also uses in airports to ensure the safety of passengers on planes.
- X-Ray Machines are also used in airports and other highly secure areas to scan employee, customer and visitor belongings to ensure that they are not carrying anything that could be percieved as dangerous. One current example is the ban on liquids and other gel-like substances in airport terminals and airplanes. After a perceived threat of liquid explosives on airplanes, officials banned the transport of liquids into terminals and on board to prevent any incident where liquids could be used to dire ends.
- Security Software is integral in protecting computers from viruses as more and more sensitive information is stored on personal and business networked computers. Antivirus software and "adware" identify and eliminate viruses and "spam" software that are innocuously downloaded or uploaded to a computer from a third party. These security products are integral for the protection of their users, as viruses, malware, and spam adware are processes which may slow down a computer's operation, steal sensitive and personal information for misuse, or even seize a computer completely.
- ID Cards are security products used by many employers to protect their facilities, stores and employees against theft and unwanted visitors. Employers can use ID card software to create high tech cards that track employee movement. Photo ID Software produces ID badges that Employers can also encode access control onto their employee's IDs. Measures of access control allow employers to restrict privileges to certain areas, protecting company secrets and sensitive information.
There are multitudes of security products on the market today, aimed at protecting both individuals, groups, homes, businesses and large organizations. A security product may be something as simple as a can of mace, or as complex as a high-tech motion detector. |
