A Security Camera Introduction
A security camera is a camera, usually wall-mounted, that is installed by an organization or a homeowner to ensure security, reduce theft, and enhance the image of their area. A security camera may come in many varieties, depending on the security needs of the owner and user. A security camera may be a traditional analog CCTV camera connected to a viewing monitor, or it may be a digital IP camera connected to a computer wirelessly.
There are many different varieties of security cameras available. One of the most widely used types of security cameras is the board camera. Consisting of a camera mounted on a circuit board, the board camera usually has a short focal length, giving it a wide angle shot without the capability to focus. The board camera's versatile construction makes it a versatile tool for many applications. Board cameras can be as small as a button on a shirt. However, the board camera is most widely used in retail applications as a dome camera. Retailers mount a dark dome over the board to disguise the movement of the camera, taking advantage of the camera's short focal length and wide range to monitor their sales floors and tills efficiently.
A camera more popular with homeowners and smaller businesses is the bullet camera. Like its name suggests, the bullet camera is a small camera housed in a bullet-shaped casing. Handsome and weatherproof, the bullet camera is versatile in many applications, both indoor and outdoor. Bullet cameras may utilize traditional line-powered CCTV technology, but are more commonly utilized as IP cameras in more modern security systems. Homeowners who want a cheaper alternative to complicated home security systems often utilize PC Cameras or Webcams for home security. Often powered through a personal computer, webcams are useful for home surveillance and as motion detectors. Webcams are also useful because they can be configured to broadcast the stream over the internet so that a homeowner may watch their security feed from anywhere in the world. |
