History of the Security Camera
The first use of a security camera was in the 1940s, when the US government filmed the testing of the V2 bomb using a camera. Security cameras were used in official contexts, such as in public areas and municipal buildings, starting in the late 1960s. It was not until the advent of personal recording devices like the VCR, in the mid 1970s, that personal use of security cameras really took off.
The wide availability of inexpensive personal recording devices enabled homeowners and owners of small businesses to emply security camera technology in their homes and stores. Cameras became much more popular in small retail, especially convenience stores and other retailers with high incidences of crime. Security camera footage became relatively easy to take and store on video tape with a CCTV camera, and the tape could be reviewed by the owner at their leisure. This advance enabled owners to cut down on theft, both internal and external, and gave them the ability to identify and prosecute criminals who robbed their stores. The rapid development of wireless and digital technology have made security camera technology more advanced than ever. PC security cameras, wireless and DVR technology have made it easier and less expensive for homeowners and small business owners to record and monitor the activity in their homes and businesses. |
