IP Camera History
IP cameras were first developed in the 1990s, around the time digital cameras became available for consumer use. Expensive and bulky, they were first used in large-scale applications, like government buildings, shipyards, large banks, monuments, and corporate headquarters. Rapidly developing technology has since brought down the cost of security systems that utilize the IP camera, and it has become more common among mid-size retailers, businesses, and even homes. Many experts agree that digital IP cameras in security systems will be an industry standard in the future. However, many businesses still see the implementation and use of IP cameras as prohibitively expensive. Many have adopted a less expensive technology which converts traditional CCTV video footage into a network stream, but since analog cameras produce low-resolution footage, the digitized quality is compromised. |
