The installation of CCTV technology has benefited many of its users. Here are some examples of its efficacy:
- An Israeli woman is arrested and charged with abuse of her infant charges after a nanny cam installed by her employers catches her shaking the children in front of the camera. Read more at NBC5.com
- In the UK, a teen was charged with vehicle theft and driving without insurance, among other things, after striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene in a hit-and-run. A CCTV camera installed on a public road was able to capture the his license plate information. In conjunction with eyewitness testimony, the teen was caught and sentenced. Read more at The Citizen
- The African nation of Namibia has announced plans to unveil a CCTV system accompanied by a toll-free number for citizens to report crimes in their neighborhoods. Officials hope that the cameras will help curb the rising crime rate and boost tourism in their developing nation.
- A city prosecutor in Ohio is charged with public indecency after CCTV cameras observed him walking around city offices in the nude. A security guard watching the CCTV monitors noticed the man nude in his office, and later, wandering around naked in a separate part of the building. He was arrested and may face a fine or up to a month in jail.
