IKEA France tests IndigoVision IP cameras
Swedish-based home furnishing retailer IKEA relies on video surveillance as a way to better secure its facilities and protect its customers and staff. In France, IKEA's new Grenoble store is serving as a testing ground for the adoption of IP-based surveillance in other IKEA locations. IKEA France has chosen an IP video solution from IndigoVision for the project, which includes 36 network cameras.
The IndigoVision IP cameras used advanced video compression technology to operate on the store's existing Local Area Network (LAN) while optimizing network bandwidth. The IP solution also supports Power over Ethernet, which enables each camera to be connected to the LAN via a single Ethernet cable. One of the many benefits of this type of IP-based surveillance setup is its scalability. If a new camera needs to be added to the system, it's as simple as connecting the Ethernet cable.
Other highlights of the system include superb image quality, and an easy-to-use video and alarm management software called "Control Center." Operators are able to view live and recorded video, with NVRs storing up to 15 days worth of continuous footage. The IndigoVision camera system is also linked up with emergency exits and alarm systems throughout the facility to aid in situations involving emergency and evacuation.
Aside from enhancing store security and safety, IKEA's new IP-based surveillance system can also be used for analyzing merchandising, as well as in-store promotions and trends.
