Isle of Man prison introduces integrated surveillance system
After over 100 years of service, the outdated and overcrowded Isle of Man has been replaced with a new complex - called Jurby. Prison officials and administrators contracted AMG Systems to install an integrated CCTV system in the new prison complex.
The Jurby prison (a £41 million investment) will house 140 inmates, a population which will include male and female inmates, juveniles, and "vulnerable" inmates. This complex and comprehensive security system includes a mix of pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) cameras and fixed cameras, both inside and outside the prison complex, connected on AMG's Vision™ 2000 Plug-'n- Play transmission system. From the control room, operators will be able to monitor prisoners through the cameras thanks to the high quality imagery and lighting-fast speed of the new broadband network.
Another fascinating feature of the new system is integration. Along with video monitoring, the IP cameras will be able to transmit alerts about other prison systems, including intercoms, access control, cell door alarms, and general alarms. Officials hope that the new system will help keep inmates, employees and visitors safe and actively maintain order in the new correctional facility.
