Axis 209MFD network cameras to monitor public transit in Switzerland
In an effort to beef up public transportation security, Switzerland is bringing out the Axis network cameras in force. An estimated 5,000 IP cameras will be installed as part of a video security project being spearheaded by Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB). Key to the effort is the new Axis 209MFD ultra-compact network camera, which will be installed in double-decker commuter trains in and around Zurich.
The 209MFD is a mere 4 cm high, making it an ideal choice for transportation environments. It's easy to install on ceilings or walls, and is equipped with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability which simplifies setup while reducing installation costs. Another highlight of the Axis 209MFD is megapixel resolution. Megapixel cameras provide extremely clear images, enabling viewers to zero in on specific details.
A number of factors led to the SBB's decision to choose IP surveillance over analog in its public transit security effort. IP surveillance systems are scalable, easier to install, provide better image quality, and offer powerful video management tools as well as intelligent solutions such as video analytics.
Switzerland's new transit surveillance network will be rolled out over the next couple of years, and will help to improve safety for travelers as well as transportation personnel.
