Axis announces Active Tampering Alarm Technology at ASIS 2007
One of the biggest risks for surveillance cameras is tampering - any type of foul play with a security camera could prevent it from keeping a building secure, preventing crime and protecting employees and customers. Axis has unveiled a new network camera technology which will hopefully reduce the risks and consequences of disturbing security cameras (whether the disturbance be intentional or unintentional).
Active Tampering Alarm technology is a new feature tailored to benefit cameras in high risk areas - where tampering or damage might happen more often than normal. Schools, banks, at-risk retail stores, prisons and correctional facilities and public transportation are all perfect candidates for Active Tampering Technology, which is designed to detect disturbances to recording. Cameras equipped with Active Tampering Alarm Technology are attuned to recognize many different kids of recording interruptions, including:
- General vandalizing (breaking of the casing, etc)
- Spray painting and intentional covering of the lens
- Redirection; accidental or intentional
- Blocking
- Out-of-focus lens
- Inclement weather and other harsh conditions
When a recording interruption is sensed, the camera sends an instant alert to the central control center or camera operator, allowing them to act quickly and restore proper recording and maximize safety.
Active Tampering Technology is available on Axis 209FD-R cameras, and will be available in 216FD, 221, 223 and 225 network cameras later this year.
