Library security camera exposes lewd activity
Libraries are supposed to be quiet, friendly environments, conducive to learning and enjoying the many wonders offered up by an endless sea of literature. Unfortunately, every now and then we hear about troubled individuals disrupting these safe havens. Library security cameras helped police nab such an individual this week in Beaverton, Oregon.
The suspect, 54-year-old Neal Boulton, was first spotted by both library patrons as well as surveillance cameras when he exposed himself in the library’s children section back on July 18. While Boulton got away that day, police were able to circulate the pictures captured by the cameras. The next time Boulton visited the library, staff members were able to quickly identify him from the images. The police were notified and plain-clothes officers were sent to the scene. When Boulton left the library this time, he was confronted and detained by a slew of local police.
This story gives us a strong example of how a library surveillance system can effectively put the lid on inappropriate behavior in an environment where such activity can be extremely disturbing, especially for children.
