Cisco Announces New Surveillance Camera at ISC West
Cisco Systems is arguably one of the biggest names in network systems, With products that are pushing evolution of technology and our ideas of networking every day. This week at ISC west, Cisco announced its first foray into the video surveillance business - with the Video Surveillance IP Camera, an indoor or outdoor pan/tilt/zoom surveillance camera with wireless and ethernet connectivity, encryption capabilties, and integrated storage and management platforms.
The most unique feature of the Cisco camera is the ways that it can draw power. Like most IP cameras, the Cisco IP Video Surveillance Camera can draw power from an Ethernet cable. However, this camera is also designed to draw power from a 12V DC outlet. For those of you who didn't pay attention in high school physics, this means that the Cisco IP Video Surveillance camera can draw power from a car's cigarette lighter, making it perfect for home, car, and office security. This type of flexibility puts the Cisco camera one step ahead of its competitors by opening itself up to several large markets with just one camera.
The Cisco IP Video Surveillance Camera is a good glimpse into the future of video surveillance and security. We're used to everything being compartmentalized - specific items and solutions for specific needs. However, as Cisco has shown, this is no longer true. Products with these types of flexible and diverse features are making security more accessible and less difficult, which in the end, is better for us all.
